Ann came to Dubuque Iowa from England in 1840 at age 8. Married at 16, and while pregnant, crossed the plains on the Oregon Trail to Salem OR in 1850. She was a tiny woman but enduring and stalwart enough to survive a harsh frontier existence in Oregon, California and Nevada, 42 years of widowhood, and outlive her 5 children who survived to maturity. Ann also had 7 other children who died young.
